Samsung Galaxy S3 Announced: Its About Those Little Things

NewImage
The Samsung Galaxy S3 was announced on May 3rd in a special unpacked event held at London. The Galaxy S3 was one of the biggest and most awaited announcements in the Androidsphere. A lot of leaks and rumors had kept the release a big suspense and everyone has been really waiting to see the new leap forward in Samsung’s Galaxy series. Many people have been disappointed with the announcement as it did not meet their expectations especially in terms of hardware. I think that Galaxy series especially the S2 is still sitting on the top of Android devices. There isn’t much you can really go forward in terms of hardware. Yet Galaxy S3 has made huge improvements where attention was really needed like the display, processor and the battery.

The Galaxy S3 comes with a 4.8″ SUPER AMOLED HD Display with 720X1280 resolution. The screen also has 306ppi which will make the text look sharp and crisp. The protection on the screen is using the Corning Gorilla Glass 2. So you don’t have to really worry about mild scratches and scuffs. The The Galaxy S3 comes with a Exynos 4212 Quad Core processor clocked at 1.4Ghz,1GB RAM, 8MP Camera that does 1080p video at 30fps.a 1.9MP front facing camera, Android 4.0.4, FM Radio, WiFi a/b/g/n, WiFi Direct, WiFi HotSpot, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, HSDPA upto 21Mbps and HSUPA upto 5.76Mbps. The phone only supports Micro Sim card. It also comes with a dropbox 50GB online storage option just in case the internal memory and the 64GB MicroSD card support isn’t enough. The device comes in Marble white and Pebble blue. The price is going to be a little high probably starting $750 for the base model.
Samsung also introduced a new voice command/dictation feature called S Voice. Its not a direct Siri competitor as you might have thought already. But it does pretty decent job to perform all those basic activities like setting alarm etc. It could get better if Samsung really plans on working them.
Another interesting feature is the Direct Call functionality. Usually when we engage in long instant message or just text message with a friend, we then try to call them and continue the conversation. Well, with this new Direct Call feature one can simply raise the phone to the ears from instant message window or text message window and the phone makes the call automatically saving you the steps of exiting the app and then opening the contacts to find and call the person. Sweet, isn’t it ??
Smart Alert is another new feature on the Galaxy S3. The phone will now vibrate when it understands that you have been away from the phone. Say for instance you were in the next room and suddenly you come back and grab your phone. You may put it to your pocket or bag without turning on the display which may actually have some notifications pending for you. Well, with smart play it alerts you when it detects certain motion with a vibration to get your attention. So you may not miss anything anytime anywhere.
We all are very familiar with tagging. But just naming a person aint enough. What if you wanted to send a personal comment to that person ? Or what if you wanted to call her and tell her how good she looked ?? With smart tags, the tag actually brings up a plethora of actions like calling, texting, email and instant messages.
AllShare Cast and AllShare Play lets you play anything wirelessly on the other devices like TV, computers etc. And S beam lets you share data between two Galaxy S3 by simply placing Galaxy S3 back to back. And no, its not the magic of NFC but WiFi direct.
These are not features that you usually demand from a phone. But they are those that you really wished if your smartphone had. And I honestly believe that Samsung has really given attention to cover those simple little things.
